Know the Law: Questions an Interviewer Cannot Ask You

All interview questions should be based on the job and the applicant’s professional qualifications. The following is a list of questions interviewers should not be asking:

  • How old are you?
  • What race are you?
  • Are you a minority?
  • What is your religion?
  • What religious holidays do you observe?
  • What is your nationality?
  • Do you have any impairments, physical or mental that would affect your ability to perform the job?
  • Have you ever been arrested?
  • Are you married?
  • Would your spouse object if you worked overtime?
  • What is your maiden name?
